Coastal Valleys EMS Agency (CVEMSA) is pleased to announce the locations and dates for the 2018 new BLS Update trainings.

Revisions to the California Code of Regulations (CCR) Title 22 Div. 9 Chapter 2 Emergency Medical Technician made by the state took effect on July 1, 2017. The revisions expanded the scope of practice to include the addition of EMT-administered epinephrine, naloxone and use of glucometers within the organized EMS system. Earlier revisions allowed for EMT use of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP).

The revised regulations require all EMTs to provide proof of completion of expanded scope of practice training when renewing certification on or after July 1, 2019. This class will fulfill that requirement and upon successful completion students will meet the new state standard for EMT practice.

These FREE trainings are available to all EMTs in the CVEMSA region. Enrollment is open to any CV- certified EMT and will meet the state mandated requirements for EMT re-certification.

Training will include:

  • Auto-injector epinephrine for allergic reaction
  • Naloxone administration
  • Aspirin administration
  • Blood glucose determination
  • Multi Casualty Incident Training updates
  • CPAP

The classes will be offered twice a month, one in Mendocino County and one in Sonoma County. See Schedule of Classes for more details. CVEMSA appreciates the assistance and support of our partner agencies hosting the training.

This course meets the required standards for EMS Continuing Education Hours (CEH) Students will receive four (4) hours of EMS CE with your certificate of completion.

Registration is open through our CVEMSA License Management System. Please watch our "how to enroll" training video at We are limited of 40 students per class- so register early to ensure your spot!

The agenda for the December 7, 2017 meeting of the Mendocino Emergency Medical Care Committee is now available.

Update: Due to the multiple fires in Sonoma County we are cancelling the EMS Stakeholder meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 10th. We will reschedule when once the situation stabilizes.

On September 25, 2017, Sonoma County Department of Health Services Director Barbie Robinson sent a letter directed to EMS System Stakeholders (pdf) in regard to the EMS ordinance revision and stakeholder engagement process:

Following the direction provided by Director Robinson, the Sonoma County Department of Health Services (DHS) and Coastal Valleys EMS Agency (CVEMSA) are convening an EMS workgroup. This workgroup will have the opportunity to engage with various aspects of EMS in Sonoma County, including the establishment of non-competitive operating areas, designing an Request for Proposal for the Exclusive Operating Area serving Santa Rosa and surrounding communities, and updating the Sonoma County EMS ordinance, as well as other issues that arise throughout the process.

The first meeting will take place on October 10th from 1:00 to 2:30 PM at the Sonoma County Water Agency (details below). The initial meeting is open to anyone interested in participating. We hope you can make it.

RSVPs for the meeting are requested to help us ensure the size of the meeting space is adequate, but not required. Here is a link to a Survey Monkey page for that purpose:
