EMS Special Memo 20-003.1

Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Management

The California EMS Authority (EMSA) is providing an update on Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) guidance following today's new announcements by Governor Gavin Newsom:

EMS Licensing, Certification and Training Requirements

The Governor's Executive Order dated March 30, 2020, allows EMSA to suspend statutory and regulatory requirements for EMS Personnel to ensure the continued operation of emergency medical systems during the COVID-19 outbreak. EMSA Director Dr. Dave Duncan has adopted a policy regarding EMS licensure, certification, and training to implement the Executive Order.

Policy to Ensure the Continued Operation of the EMS System

California Health Corps

Today, Governor Newsom also launched a major new initiative to expand California’s health care workforce and recruit health care professionals to address the COVID-19 surge. Health care professionals with an active license, public health professionals, medical retirees, medical and nursing students, or members of medical disaster response teams in California are all encouraged to join the new California Health Corps.

Interested medical and health care professionals are encouraged to visit healthcorps.ca.gov for more information and to register for the California Health Corps.

Other EMS-related guidance can be found on EMSA’s COVID-19 Resource Portal at https://emsa.ca.gov/covid19/.
