Treatment Guidelines Update

The following treatment guidelines are revised and may be utilized by an agency once all personnel have completed the appropriate training. Appropriate training includes review of the CAM PowerPoint and video as well as a hands-on CAM scenario preferably utilizing the SmartMan CPR Training Manikin. Coastal Valleys EMS Agency staff is available to facilitate these trainings with the SmartMan CPR Training Manikin. 7006 Determination of Death in the Prehospital Setting
Revised to reflect changes associated with CAM.

8016 Cardiac Arrest Management (CAM)
Replaces the old 8016 BLS Cardiac Arrest and 9112 ALS Cardiac Arrest.

8101 Cardiac Arrest – VF/VT
Replaces 9101 Adult VF-VT and 9702 Pediatric VF-VT

8105 Cardiac Arrest – Asystole/PEA
Replaces 9105 Adult Asystole/PEA and 9701 Pediatric Asystole/PEA

Some key points include:

• Focus on high quality uninterrupted chest compressions and early defibrillation.
• Passive oxygenation when only 2 rescuers are on scene of a cardiac arrest.
• Dopamine is now a Base Hospital order.
• Epinephrine now has a maximum dose.
• All patients with ROSC are to be transported to the closest STEMI Receiving Center if transport time is 30 minutes or less.
• Unwitnessed arrests are to be resuscitated unless determination of death criteria has been met.
• Minimum 20 minutes on scene resuscitation time.
